The Placer County Youth Commission consists of 20 Commissioners, appointed by the Placer County Board of Supervisors, who serve to identify and advocate for issues important to and affecting Placer County youth.
The Placer County Youth Commission seeks to:
Advise the Placer County Board of Supervisors and other key decision makers about issues impacting local youth.
Integrate youth voice into community organizing and local government/ policymaking opportunities.
Prepare youth to be advocates in their own community.
Promote and provide service opportunities that encourage youth to be actively engaged members in their community.
Enhance the environment and ensure the community supports healthy, thriving youth.
Placer County resident between 14 (or entering 9th grade) to 18 (or in 12th grade) years of age.
An individual may sit for a maximum of two terms.
Membership shall consist of at least two representatives from each of the five supervisory districts in Placer County.
Complete and submit the application by 11:59pm April 30, 2023.
Applicants will receive an invitation for an interview with the recruitment committee Interviews will occur late May & early June 2023*.
Notifications of decisions will be emailed on June 26, 2023*.
Time Commitments & responsibilities
Summer Retreat: Will occur August 1-2, 2023* and is a required event
Meetings: Two meetings monthly (August 2023-June 2024). Meetings are held every 1st & 3rd Wednesday monthly from 6:30-8:00pm. Meetings are located at public libraries in Auburn, CA and Rocklin, CA or virtually through zoom.
Subcommittees: Commissioners have the opportunity to serve on one subcommittee. These subcommittees will be decided during the summer retreat.
Special Events: All Commissioners are expected to actively participate in all special events
Behavior: Commissioners are expected to maintain a high level of behavior and citizenship in school and in the community.
