Youth Commissioners:

Appointed July, 2017 by the Placer County Board of Supervisors.  One-year term.

Kathryn Sobczak

Emily Nunez - District 1 - Multimedia Producer

My name is Emily Nunez and I am the media producer for the Placer County Youth Commission (PCYC). I am also a student government officer for the Class of 2019 at Roseville High School. I stand for respect. I believe it is imperative that all people respect the laws that govern our country and recognize the process in which to change laws. I believe respecting one's right for free speech will result in greater accomplishments through thoughtful discussion. More importantly, I believe that each human being should have a rooted understanding that violence in response to any speech is not acceptable.

James Provins

Cayley Chan - District 1

My name is Cayley Chan and I am a senior at Oakmont High School. I am a commissioner for the Placer County Youth Commission and I stand for kindness. I believe that kindness encompasses selflessness, compassion, and love which are important virtues for one to have. It is essential to be kind to one another as it represents our humanity and respect for other people, outside of ourselves.

Ivy Liu

Mitchell Herbert - District 1 - Technology/Information Services

My name is Mitchell herbert and I stand for education. As a technology enthusiast, I know that education is vital to our success later in life. Many students require more support in the pursuit of a higher level education. Specifically, young scientists, engineers, and mathematicians are often not provided with enough opportunities to utilize and acquire new talents in both schools and the community. I hope to help bring opportunities to young technologists in Placer County.

Henry Low

Claire Jordan - District 4 - Vice President

My name is Claire Jordan, and I stand for education. I am a senior at Oakmont High School and a second term commissioner on the Placer County Youth Commission. Education is not just a desk, paper, and pencil but is a necessity in neighborhoods, cities, and our entire county for the continued safety and wellbeing of youth and all other members of the community. Learning about our county's needs is the fundamental first step to understanding how to address them. Placer County benefits when its citizens are aware of potential issues and provided access to helpful resources.

Vivian Chang

Patrick Young - District 3 - Treasurer

My name is Patrick Young and I am a junior at Western Sierra Collegiate Academy. I am the treasurer and plan on serving on the commission to the fullest of my ability. I stand for being limitless. Limits restrict and prevent people from achieving their potential and being the best people they can be. I believe that everyone deserves opportunities to reach their goals, surpass their limits, and better themselves. The possibilities of success are limitless.

Ivy Liu

Chi Hin Kwok - District 2

Sarah Downey - District 5

My name is Sarah Downey, and I am a freshman at Colfax High School. This is my first year as an ambassador on the commission. When asked what I stand for, the first concept that came to mind was freedom. Freedom allows us to progress as individuals and as a society. It cultivates an environment where self-expression is encouraged, leading to diversity and cohesion of people. I aim to find a way to help those in other parts of the world who are deprived of the liberty they deserve.

Katelyn Swanson

Kathleen Rodda - District 4

As history has proved, communities are stronger when their individuals are aware of what is going on around them. In the hustle and bustle of our world today, however, it is easy to get caught up in our own lives and forget the thousands of other people around us. This is why I stand for awareness. To grow and develop as a community, it is essential that we come together and become more conscious of the issues surrounding us. It is important that we grow in our sensitivity to the situations of others, and that we reach a deeper understanding of them in order to make Placer County the best it can possibly be.

Jason Headington

Jenn Beardsley - District 1

My name is Jenn Beardsley and I am a junior at Core Placer Charter School. This is my first year as an Ambassador, and I stand for excellence. Although the dictionary defines excellence as "the quality of being outstanding or very good," I believe excellence is when all of us work hard to improve the lives of everyone in the community, because when we do our absolute best, we achieve excellence.

Kaela Dandeneau
